We develop a model of eternal topological inflation using a racetrack potential within the context of type IIB string theory with KKLT volume stabilization. The inflaton field is the imaginary part of the Kähler structure modulus, which is an axion-like field in the 4D effective field theory. This model does not require moving branes, and in this sense it is simpler than other models of string theory inflation. Contrary to single-exponential models, the structure of the potential in this… Expand

Inflating in a Better Racetrack
We present a new version of our racetrack inflation scenario which, unlike our original proposal, is based on an explicit compactification of type IIB string theory: the Calabi-Yau manifoldExpand
Towards matter ination in heterotic string theory
Recently, a class of inflation models in supergravity with gauge non-singlet matter fields as the inflation has been proposed. It is based on a ‘tribrid’ structure in the superpotential and on aExpand
Accidental inflation in string theory
We show that inflation in type IIB string theory driven by the volume modulus can be realized in the context of the racetrack-based Kallosh–Linde model (KL) of moduli stabilization. Inflation hereExpand
Constraints on modular inflation in supergravity and string theory
We perform a general algebraic analysis on the possibility of realising slow-roll inflation in the moduli sector of string models. This problem turns out to be very closely related to theExpand
Kahler moduli inflation revisited
We perform a detailed numerical analysis of inflationary solutions in Kahler moduli of type IIB flux compactifications. We show that there are inflationary solutions even when all the fields play anExpand
Multibrane inflation and dynamical flattening of the inflaton potential
We investigate the problem of fine tuning of the potential in the KKLMMT warped flux compactification scenario for brane-antibrane inflation in Type IIB string theory. We argue for the importance ofExpand
Warped Tachyonic Inflation in Type IIB Flux Compactifications and the Open-String Completeness Conjecture
We consider a cosmological scenario within the KKLT framework for moduli stabilization in string theory. The universal open string tachyon of decaying non-BPS D-brane configurations is proposed toExpand
Warm inflection
A bstractWhile ubiquitous in supersymmetric and string theory models, inflationary scenarios near an inflection point in the scalar potential generically require a severe fine-tuning of a prioriExpand
Models of modular inflation and their phenomenological consequences
We study models of modular inflation of the form expected to arise from low energy effective actions of superstring theories. We argue on general grounds that the most likely models are small fieldExpand
Course 3 - String Cosmology
This chapter discusses the string cosmology. The string theory focuses on inflation. It brings qualitatively new candidates for the inflation, and some possible observable signatures that areExpand

Towards inflation in string theory
We investigate the embedding of brane inflation into stable compactifications of string theory. At first sight a warped compactification geometry seems to produce a naturally flat inflaton potential,Expand
Modular cosmology.
It is shown that string theory has two generic types of domain walls which could be the seeds for inflation, and it is argued that modular physics provides a very robust model of inflation. Expand
De Sitter vacua in string theory
We outline the construction of metastable de Sitter vacua of type IIB string theory. Our starting point is highly warped IIB compactifications with nontrivial NS and RR three-form fluxes. ByExpand
An inflationary model in string theory
We construct a model of inflation in string theory after carefully taking into account moduli stabilization. The setting is a warped compactification of type IIB string theory in the presence of D3-Expand
Brane-antibrane inflation in orbifold and orientifold models
We analyse the cosmological implications of brane-antibrane systems in string-theoretic orbifold and orientifold models. In a class of realistic models, consistency conditions require branes andExpand
Irrational axions as a solution of the strong CP problem in an eternal universe
Abstract We exhibit a novel solution of the strong CP problem, which does not involve any massless particles. The low energy effective lagrangian of our model involves a discrete space-timeExpand
Brane Inflation
We present a novel inflationary scenario in theories with low scale (TeV) quantum gravity, in which the standard model particles are localized on the branes whereas gravity propagates in the bulk ofExpand
Implementing quadratic supergravity inflation
Abstract We study inflation driven by a slow-rolling inflaton field, characterised by a quadratic potential, and incorporating radiative corrections within the context of supergravity. In this modelExpand
Inflation in realistic D-brane models
We find successful models of D-brane/anti-brane inflation within a string context. We work within the GKP-LT class of type IIB string vacua for which many moduli are stabilized through fluxes, asExpand
Braneworld inflation
We discuss various realizations of the four dimensional braneworld inflation in warped geometries of string theory. In all models the inflaton field is represented by a Dp probe brane scalarExpand
