Clathrus archeri is a fungus native to Australia and New Zealand that has started to expand into Europe, and it is considered a potentially invasive species. In this study, we examine the historical occurrence, current geographical range and potential future changes in the distribution of C. archeri using worldwide distribution data. This study shows that even extremely low abundance of ectomycorrhizas can open the possibility of using an ectomyCorrhiza survey for their quantification as a good indicator of the presence of S. lakei in field conditions, and finds that the precipitation of the coldest quarters, isothermality, and annual mean temperature are important factors influencing the potential distribution of the fungus.
