Quercetin is widely known as potent natural antioxidant and scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide both in vitro and in vivo. Quercetin has a wide range of biological functions and health-promoting effects. There are more and more interests in the addition of this flavonol to various traditional food products. However, the in vitro toxicity of quercetin to mature human sperm remains unknown. In this study, we investigated the in vitro effects of quercetin on human sperm…

Matrine Inhibits Mouse Sperm Function by Reducing Sperm [Ca2+]i and Phospho-ERK1/2
TLDR
Investigation of the in vitro toxicity of matrine on mature mouse sperm indicated that matrine inhibits mouse sperm function by reducing sperm [Ca2+]i and suppressing the phosphorylation of ERK1/2.
Ketamine inhibits human sperm function by Ca(2+)-related mechanism.
Changes of intracellular Ca2+ in quercetin-induced autophagy progression.
TLDR
It is suggested that calcium from intracellular calcium storage may play an important role in quercetin-induced autophagy.
Quercetin Potentiates Toxicity Of Hemolytic Drugs In G6PD Deficient Human Erythrocytes
TLDR
Treatment of G6PD deficient human erythrocytes in vitro with quercetin caused significant increase in methemoglobin formation and selective depletion of reduced glutathione levels, and augmented the hemotoxic effect of 2-amino-4-chlorophenol in vitro.
The molecular basis of the antidiabetic action of quercetin in cultured skeletal muscle cells and hepatocytes
TLDR
Data demonstrate that quercetin positively influences glucose metabolism in the liver and skeletal muscle, and therefore appear to be a promising therapeutic candidate for the treatment of in type 2 diabetes.
Evaluation of the potential in vivo genotoxicity of quercetin.
ERK1/2 mediates sperm acrosome reaction through elevation of intracellular calcium concentration
TLDR
It has been established that the increase in ERK1/2 phosphorylation/activation in response to ZP or by activation of the EGF receptor (EGFR) by EGF, is a key event for intracellular Ca2+ elevation and the subsequent occurrence of the acrosome reaction.
Topoisomerase II inhibition and high yield of endoreduplication induced by the flavonoids luteolin and quercetin.
TLDR
The results question the usefulness of luteolin and quercetin in cancer therapy because interference with the function of topo II to resolve DNA entanglement at the end of replication results in chromosome malsegregation at mitosis.
