Quenching Activities of Common Hydrophilic and Lipophilic Antioxidants against Singlet Oxygen Using Chemiluminescence Detection System
@inproceedings{Nishida2007QuenchingAO, title={Quenching Activities of Common Hydrophilic and Lipophilic Antioxidants against Singlet Oxygen Using Chemiluminescence Detection System}, author={Yasuhiko Nishida and Eiji Yamashita}, year={2007} }
The singlet oxygen quenching activities among common hydrophilic and lipophilic antioxidants such as polyphenols, tocopherols, carotenoids, ascorbic acid, coenzyme Q10 and α-lipoic acid were recorded under the same test condition: the chemiluminescence detection system for direct O2 counting using the thermodissociable endoperoxides of 1,4-dimethylnaphthalene as O2 generator in DMF : CDCl3 (9 : 1). Carotenoids exhibited larger total quenching rate constants than other antioxidants, with…

A Possible Role for Singlet Oxygen in the Degradation of Various Antioxidants. A Meta-Analysis and Review of Literature Data
- ChemistryAntioxidants
- 2018
A competition between the various antioxidants and the proteins of proteinaceous diseases in capturing singlet oxygen’s empty π* orbital is suggested because the concentration of the antioxidants could be a crucial factor for the competition.

Mitochondrion-Permeable Antioxidants to Treat ROS-Burst-Mediated Acute Diseases
- BiologyOxidative medicine and cellular longevity
- 2016
Astaxanthin (a special carotenoid) is proposed to be the best antioxidant for ROS-burst-mediated acute diseases, like avian influenza infection and ischemia-reperfusion, although astaxanthins are so unstable that most of them are inactivated after oral administration.
