Experiments show that the Cooper pair transport in the insulator phase that forms at thin film superconductor to insulator transitions (SIT) is simply activated. The activation energy T_{0} depends on the microscopic factors that drive Cooper pair localization. To test proposed models, we investigated how a perturbation that weakens Cooper pair binding, magnetic impurity doping, and phase frustration affects T_{0}. The data show that T_{0} decreases monotonically with doping in films tuned…

We study the effects of random $$\pi $$ Josephson junctions and applied magnetic field on the quantum phase transitions of superconducting arrays, described by a two-dimensional phase-glass model.

Spin-polarized tunneling in critically disordered Be-Al bilayers

We report spin-polarized tunneling density of states measurements of the proximity modulated superconductor-insulator transition in ultra thin Be-Al bilayers. The bilayer samples consisted of a Be

Current–voltage characteristics of strained, highly underdoped La 2−x Sr x CuO4 thin films

The temperature dependence of resistance and of current–voltage characteristics I−V are studied for two underdoped La1.952Sr0.048CuO4 films with different thickness and different degrees of built-in

Disorder-induced superconductor to insulator transition and finite phase stiffness in two-dimensional phase-glass models

We study numerically the superconductor to insulator transition in two-dimensional phase-glass (or chiral-glass) models with varying degree of disorder. These models describe the effects of gauge

Superconductor-Insulator Transition and Fermi-Bose Crossovers

The direct transition from an insulator to a superconductor (SC) in Fermi systems is a problem of long-standing interest, which necessarily goes beyond the standard BCS paradigm of superconductivity

Localized superconductivity in the quantum-critical region of the disorder-driven superconductor-insulator transition in TiN thin films.

TLDR
Findings indicate the formation of a distinct collective state of the localized Cooper pairs in the critical region at both sides of the transition, evidencing a direct superconductor-insulator transition without an intermediate metallic phase.

Cooper-pair insulator phase in superconducting amorphous Bi films induced by nanometer-scale thickness variations

Unusual transport properties of superconducting (SC) materials, such as the under doped cuprates, low dimensional superconductors in strong magnetic fields, and insulating films near the Insulator

Collapse of the Cooper pair phase coherence length at a superconductor-to-insulator transition

We present investigations of the superconductor to insulator transition (SIT) of uniform a-Bi films using a technique sensitive to Cooper pair phase coherence. The films are perforated with a

Magnetoresistance of an Anderson insulator of bosons.

TLDR
The magnetoresistance of two-dimensional bosonic Anderson insulators is studied using a simplified droplet model which incorporates the nontrivial DPRM exponents and describes the change in spatial decay of localized excitations in response to a magnetic field.

Dynamical Conductivity Across The Disorder-Tuned Superconductor-Insulator Transition

A quantum phase transition is a dramatic event marked by large spatial and temporal fluctuations, where one phase of matter with its ground state and tower of excitations reorganizes into a
