SummaryThe development of the Mediterranean cyclone of 4–6 March, 1982 that occurred during the Alpine Experiment (ALPEX) is studied through use of isentropic quasi-Lagrangian diagnostics. The analyses include a determination of the mass and angular momentum balance and the forcing of the cyclone's mass circulation by torques and heating.The isentropic mass circulation was inward in lower isentropic layers and outward in upper isentropic layers throughout the period of the study.
