The method of four-dimensional Causal Dynamical Triangulations provides a background-independent definition of the sum over geometries in quantum gravity, in the presence of a positive cosmological constant. We present the evidence accumulated to date that a macroscopic four-dimensional world can emerge from this theory dynamically. Using computer simulations we observe in the Euclidean sector a universe whose scale factor exhibits the same dynamics as that of the simplest mini-superspace… Expand

Quantum spacetime, from a practitioner's point of view
We argue that theories of quantum gravity constructed with the help of (Causal) Dynamical Triangulations have given us the most informative, quantitative models to date of quantum spacetime. MostExpand
A 2D model of causal set quantum gravity: the emergence of the continuum
Non-perturbative theories of quantum gravity inevitably include configurations that fail to resemble physically reasonable spacetimes at large scales. Often, these configurations are entropicallyExpand
Stochastic quantization and the role of time in quantum gravity
Abstract We show that the noncritical string field theory developed from two-dimensional quantum gravity in the framework of causal dynamical triangulations can be viewed as arising through aExpand
Quantum Gravity via Causal Dynamical Triangulations
Causal dynamical triangulations (CDT ) represent a lattice regularization of the sum over spacetime histories, providing us with a nonperturbative formulation of quantum gravity. The ultravioletExpand
Quantum gravity from causal dynamical triangulations: a review
This topical review gives a comprehensive overview and assessment of recent results in Causal Dynamical Triangulations (CDT), a modern formulation of lattice gravity, whose aim is to obtain a theoryExpand

Nonperturbative quantum gravity

Introduction to Causal Dynamical Triangulations
The method of causal dynamical triangulations is a non-perturbative and background-independent approach to quantum theory of gravity. In this review we present recent results obtained within the fourExpand

Taming the cosmological constant in 2D causal quantum gravity with topology change

Semiclassical universe from first principles
Causal Dynamical Triangulations in four dimensions provide a backgroundindependent definition of the sum over space-time geometries in nonperturbative quantum gravity. We show that the macroscopicExpand
Non-perturbative Lorentzian Quantum Gravity, Causality and Topology Change

The phase structure of the Wick-rotated path integral in three dimensions with the aid of computer simulations is investigated, finding a whole range of the gravitational coupling constant k{sub 0} for which the functional integral is dominated by nondegenerate three-dimensional space-times. Expand

Causality Versus Gauge Invariance in Quantum Gravity and Supergravity
