Minimally invasive surgical interventions (MIS) using monocular optics lead to the loss of 3D depth perception due to the 2D visualization. Thus the surgeon must estimate the pose of 3D objects in the surgical scene solely based on his experience. Especially for residents this is very difficult due to the lack of this experience.
