THE REPORT BY T. SEARCHINGER ET AL. (“Use of U.S. croplands for biofuels increases greenhouse gases through emissions from land-use change,” 29 February, p. 1238) provides one scenario for the conversion from a fossil-based energy economy to a biobased, renewable-energy economy.
