BACKGROUND Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (PDCs) are the major producers of interferon (IFN)- alpha within peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). METHODS We analyzed whether chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection could be linked to a defective function or number of PDCs.
