BACKGROUND Patients with brain metastasis (BM) usually suffer from poor quality of life (QOL), anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders in their reduced lifespan. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate QOL, anxiety, depression, and sleep characteristics in patients with BM at the beginning and end of whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT) and three months after treatment. METHODS Thirty-three patients undergoing WBRT for BM were featured in this study. The authors used the Karnofsky…
Factors Related to Quality of Life among Patients with Brain Tumors
TLDR
The findings revealed that symptom distress and anxiety were negatively related to QOL, and nurses should pay attention to the patients’ anxiety and symptom distress by conducting routine assessment.
Exploring sleep disturbance among adults with primary or secondary malignant brain tumors and their caregivers.
TLDR
More than half the sample had sleep disturbance, which was linked to many concomitant symptoms, such as fatigue in patients and anxiety in caregivers, potentially contributing to distress and functional impairment.
Understanding sleep disturbance in the context of malignant brain tumors: a qualitative analysis.
TLDR
Psychological factors contribute to sleep disturbance in patients with BT and caregivers and this population may benefit from information about sleep disturbance and interventions targeting anxiety.
Effect of cancer treatment on sleep quality in cancer patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index
TLDR
It is revealed that cancer patients experience poor quality of sleep during the whole trajectory of cancer even after a year from the initiation of treatment, and needs more sleep-related interventions to improve.
OPRM1 c.118A>G Polymorphism and Duration of Morphine Treatment Associated with Morphine Doses and Quality-of-Life in Palliative Cancer Pain Settings
TLDR
Age, OPRM1 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), as well as the duration of morphine treatment were significantly associated with morphine doses at 24 h, which could help increase the effectiveness of Morphine treatment and enhance the QOL of patients in regards to personalized medicine.
Impairment of sociocognitive functions in patients with brain tumours
Symptom-based interventions to promote quality survivorship.

TLDR
Symptom management is a significant component of quality survivorship care for persons with brain tumors and research is needed to provide evidence in support of symptom-based interventions while novel approaches to these challenging problems are developed.
Barriers to managing sleep disturbance in people with malignant brain tumours and their caregivers: a qualitative analysis of healthcare professionals’ perception
TLDR
Healthcare professionals’ perception and current management of sleep disturbance (SD) in people with malignant brain tumours and their caregivers is explored and barriers to effective management of SD in neuro-oncology care are identified.

Sleep, mood, and quality of life in patients receiving treatment for lung cancer.
TLDR
A high frequency of sleep disturbances in patients receiving treatment for lung cancer was evident, and poor sleepers had lower QOL, and sleep disturbances may be more related to lung cancer symptoms than anxiety or depression.
The relationship of subjective sleep quality, pain, and quality of life in advanced cancer patients.
TLDR
Quality of sleep in patients suffering from stage IV cancer was significantly decreased and the use of the PSQI questionnaire demonstrated that these subjects were prone to sleep poor quality, however, the various demographic variables and clinical features of the cancers did not affect quality of sleep.
Evaluation of quality of life and psychological response in cancer patients treated with radiotherapy
TLDR
The authors could treat cancer patients by radiotherapy without reducing their QOL, and improvement in QOL was significant in the palliative radiotherapy group, and mental condition was also improved after radiotherapy.
Prospective evaluation of quality of life effects in patients undergoing palliative radiotherapy for brain metastases
TLDR
Moderate deterioration in several QoL domains was predominantly observed three months after start of palliative radiotherapy for brain metastases, with lower Karnofsky performance score, higher age and higher pain ratings before radiotherapy were prognostic of 3-month survival.
Effects of Radiotherapy for Brain Metastases on Quality of Life (QoL)
TLDR
First results indicate a moderate worsening of QoL during the first 3 months after start of palliative radiotherapy for brain metastases, suggestingQoL at initiation of radiotherapy may be prognostic for survival.

TLDR
Whole brain radiation of cancer patients with cerebral metastases is very well tolerated and side effects are frequently met and can be compensated by applying steroids.
