CASSIOPE, the CAScade Demonstrator Smallsat and Ionospheric Polar Explorer, is a Canadian satellite scheduled for launch in 2007. It is a hybrid mission designed for a wide range of tasks including space-based communication, high capacity information delivery, and observations of the Earth’s atmospheric environment. A dedicated suite of eight scientific instruments, called e-PoP, will investigate space storms in the upper atmosphere and provide GPS-based navigation information. In view of… Expand

Performance comparison of semicodeless GPS receivers for LEO satellites
TLDR
The IGOR receiver represents a follow-on of the flight-proven BlackJack receiver and is thus best suited for occultation measurements with low tangent point altitudes, and the OEM4-G2 and PolaRx2 receivers are shown to properly track dual-frequency GPS signals and normal signal levels and to provide accurate code and carrier phase measurements. Expand
Performance Assessment of Single and Dual Frequency, Commercial-based GPS Receiver for LEO Orbit
TLDR
Performance assessment of the NovAtel OEM4-G2L dual frequency receiver with modified firmware is reported, and the initial tracking/acquisition performance, single point navigation accuracy and the effect of the deterioration of the L2 (Pseudo-Y) signal on the navigation accuracy are evaluated. Expand
CASSIOPE orbit and attitude determination using commercial off-the-shelf GPS receivers
TLDR
The GAP experiment demonstrates the feasibility of using COTS-based global navigation satellite system receivers in space and the benefits they can bring for small-scale science missions. Expand

GPS for Microsatellites – Status and Perspectives
GPS receivers nowadays provide a well established system for tracking of spacecraft in low-Earth orbit (LEO). In addition, GPS receivers serve as instruments for geodetic and atmospheric research onExpand
Functional model for spacecraft formation flying using non-dedicated GPS/Galileo receivers
TLDR
A new functional model is introduced that can correct the time-varying offset error and achieve the mm-level accuracy of GNSS even with non-dedicated GNSS receivers. Expand
Reduced dynamic orbit determination using GPS code and carrier measurements
TLDR
While the extended Kalman filter/smoother requires less computer resources in terms of memory and processing time, the batch least-squares estimator ensures a better smoothness of the resulting trajectory and was found to be more robust in case of data gaps. Expand
Precise relative positioning offormation flying Spacecraft using GPS
TLDR
This dissertation presents a thorough overview of various GPS based strategies for precise relative spacecraft positioning, which have all been tested using real-world GPS data from the GRACE satellite mission. Expand

The GPS Attitude, Positioning, and Profiling Experiment for the Enhanced Polar Outflow Probe Platform on the Canadian Cassiope Satellite
The CAScade, Smallsat and IOnospheric Polar Explorer, or CASSIOPE, is Canada’s first multi-purpose small satellite, scheduled to be launched in 2011. It features two main payloads: the Enhanced Pol...
