ABSTRACT In this study, ultrasonic measurements were performed on a single crystal of cubic PrNi2Cd20, down to a temperature of 0.02 K, to investigate the crystalline electric field ground state and search for possible phase transitions at low temperatures. The elastic constant (C11−C12)/2, which is related to the Γ3-symmetry quadrupolar response, exhibits the Curie-type softening at temperatures below ∼30 K, which indicates that the present system has a Γ3 non-Kramers doublet ground state. Heavy-fermion superconductivity in the quadrupole ordered state of PrV2Al20.

It is reported that a high-quality single crystal of PrV2Al20 exhibits superconductivity at Tc=50  mK in the antiferroquadrupole-ordered state under ambient pressure, suggesting unconventional character due to significant quadrupolar fluctuations.

Possible Low-Temperature Strongly Correlated Electron Behavior from Multipole Fluctuations in PrMg3 with Cubic Non-Kramers Γ3 Doublet Ground State

The magnetic and thermodynamic properties of PrMg 3 single crystals were investigated based on the magnetic susceptibility χ( T ) and the specific heat C P ( T ). An observed broad anomaly in C P ( T

f-Electron-Nuclear Hyperfine-Coupled Multiplets in the Unconventional Charge Order Phase of Filled Skutterudite PrRu4P12

The filled skutterudite PrRu 4 P 12 is known to undergo an unconventional charge order phase transition at 63 K, below which two sublattices with distinct f -electron crystalline-electric-field

Quadrupole Ordering in Clathrate Compound Ce3Pd20Si6

Low-temperature elastic properties of the clathrate compound Ce 3 Pd 20 Si 6 were investigated using ultrasonic measurements. Pronounced softening of elastic constants ( C 11 - C 12 )/2 and C 44 with

Quadrupolar Kondo Effect in Non-Kramers Doublet System PrInAg2

We performed ultrasonic measurement on the rare-earth intermetallic compound PrInAg 2 to examine the quadrupolar Kondo effect associated with the non-Kramers Γ 3 doublet ground state. The

Kondo Effects and Multipolar Order in the cubic PrTr2Al20 (Tr=Ti, V)

Our single crystal study reveals that PrTr2Al20 (Tr = Ti and V) provides the first examples of a cubic Γ3 nonmagnetic ground doublet system that shows the Kondo effect including a− lnT dependent

Exotic Quadrupolar Phenomena in Non-Kramers Doublet Systems — The Cases of PrT2Zn20 (T = Ir, Rh) and PrT2Al20 (T = V, Ti) —

This paper reviews experimental evidence and the related theoretical background on exotic phenomena arising from local quadrupolar degrees of freedom. Recent extensive studies on praseodymium-based

Our single crystal study reveals that Pr Tr 2 Al 20 ( Tr = Ti and V) provides the first examples of a cubic Γ 3 nonmagnetic ground doublet system that shows the Kondo effect including a -ln T

Weak hybridization and isolated localized magnetic moments in the compounds CeT2Cd20 (T = Ni, Pd)

The physical properties of single crystals of the compounds CeT2Cd20 (T = Ni, Pd) that were grown in a molten Cd flux are reported and evidence for the emergence of magnetic order has not been observed so far in measurements up to 2.5 GPa.

Dissipation in Non-Kramers Doublet of PrMg3

The low-temperature ultrasonic dispersion in the transverse ( C 11 - C 12 )/2 mode of PrMg 3 with the non-Kramers-doublet ground state has been investigated in temperatures down to 20 mK. The
