Abstract Cytotoxic effects of ethanol on cultured human hepatocytes and fibroblasts differed with the type of culture medium used. When cytotoxic effects of ethanol were compared between culture systems using either RPMI-1640 or Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium (DMEM), the cytotoxicity was more prominent with the former medium than with the latter. A reduction of the cytotoxic effects appeared to be due to the pyruvate contained in DMEM. The protective effect of pyruvate against ethanol…
Mechanisms of the protective effect of L-alanine to D-galactosamine-induced hepatocellular injury: comparative studies of L-alanine and pyruvate.
It was revealed that the intracellular content of pyruvate did not increase as a result of addition of L-alanine, consistent with the hypothesis that L- Alanine metabolism is important for hepatoprotection, but pyruVate cannot be used as a substitute for L-Alanine.

A homeopathic remedy from arnica, marigold, St. John’s wort and comfrey accelerates in vitro wound scratch closure of NIH 3T3 fibroblasts
Results of this study showed that the low potency homeopathic remedy Similasan® Arnica plus Spray exerted in vitro wound closure potential in NIH 3T3 fibroblasts.
Albumin–genipin solder for laser tissue repair
In this study, a crosslinking agent of low cytotoxicity was investigated for its ability to enhance the bond strength of albumin solders with sheep intestine.

Inhibition of the growth of transformed and neoplastic cells by the dipeptide carnosine.
Mixtures of normal MRC-5 fibroblasts and HeLa cells are used to demonstrate that 20 mM carnosine can selectively eliminate the tumour cells, and it is proposed that it depletes certain glycolysis intermediates.
Methanol stimulates the colony-formation rate in a human hepatoma cell line (HLE).
Among five human hepatoma cell lines, only HLE cells showed enhanced colony formation due to methanol, and Methanol itself, however, did not enhance the cell proliferation.
Neoplastic transformation of human diploid fibroblasts (KMST‐6) by treatment with 60Co gamma rays
Normal fibroblasts derived from a human embryo were transformed in culture into neoplastic cells (KMST‐6) by repeated treatment with 60Co gamma ray irradiation, and the transformed cells are presently growing indefinitely and exhibit prominent karyologic aberrations, both numerical and structural.

It was indicated that the effect of ethanol on reinforcement of meprobamate activity would appear strongly by potentiation effect and its level would rise extremely by an acute administration of ethanol.
