journal={Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society},
The pyrrolizidine alkaloid content of crude borage oil and borage oil from different processing stages was determined by GC-MS. The results showed that no pyrrolizidine alkaloids were present above a detection limit of 20 ppb. The reduction factors for pyrrolizidine alkaloids at various stages in the oil refining process were determined by means of spiking experiments using the commercially available pyrrolizidine alkaloid crotaline. It was shown that the pyrrolizidine content in crude borage… Expand
Methods for Analysis of Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids 32
Analytical methods are required for different purposes ‐ to detect the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids, to quantify the total level of the toxins, or to measure the quantity of individual compounds. Expand

Scientific Opinion on Pyrrolizidine alkaloids in food and feed
The Panel concluded that whilst the available data do not indicate a concern for any population subgroup, the dietary exposure estimates relate to a limited number of food groups and a possible unknown contribution from other foods cannot be discounted. Expand

Kinetics of Bleaching of Vegetable Oils
It was shown in a recent paper that the concentration c of remaining chlorophyll or carotene in rapeseed oil during the bleaching process follows a rate formula, log c/co =– k √t, characteristic ofExpand
Gas chromatographic—mass spectrometric identification of the fatty acids in borage oil using the picolinyl ester derivatives
Abstract When subjected to capillary gas chromatography, picolinyl ester derivatives of fatty acids were shown to have as good chromatographic properties as the corresponding methyl esters. By usingExpand
Preparative separation of pyrrolizidine alkaloids by high-speed counter-current chromatography.
Pyrrolizidine alkaloid compositions of the four species, determined by mass spectral techniques, were consistent with literature, except for the lack of riddelliine and the presence of the otonecine-based florosenine in Senecio douglasii var. Expand
The alkaloids of Symphytum X uplandicum (Russian comfrey).
Eight pyrrolizidine alkaloids have been identified in the leaves of Symphytum × uplandicum Nyman (Russian comfrey). They are echimidine (1), symphytine (2), lycopsamine (3), intermedine (4) and fourExpand
