Humans can produce nitrogenous bases endogenously. For the biosynthesis of purines, the purine ring is built from residues of different origins, including glycine, glutamine, aspartate, formyl tetrahydrofolate, and CO 2 . The molecular assembly is performed with ribose-5-P bound to it. First, 5-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate (PRPP) is formed by phosphoribosylpyrophosphate synthetase . Finally a nucleotide is obtained.
