While colonoscopy may detect early-stage colontumors, a less invasive and more costeffective techniquewould be beneficial. Stool, which picks up sloughed-offcolonic epithelial cells, would be ideal for sampling the mucosa; shed tumor cells maydisplay alterations in gene expression observed inintact tumors.
