Streptococcus equi subsp. equi and subsp. zooepidemicus are important pathogens of the equine respiratory tract. Isolates of both subspecies were examined by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). With the exception of eight isolates, a unique band pattern was displayed for each of the 48 subsp. zooepidemicus isolates tested.
