Pulsed electrochemical detection (PED) following reversed-phase chromatography has been applied to the direct detection of sulfur-containing antibiotics, specifically, penicillins, cephalosporins, and lincomycin. The compounds are detected sensitively and selectively without the need for derivatization. Integrated pulsed amperometric detection (IPAD) yields limits of detection lower than UV detection for these compounds.
