Pulse interval modulation-dual header (PIM-DH)

  title={Pulse interval modulation-dual header (PIM-DH)},
author={N. M. Aldibbiat and Zabih Ghassemlooy and Reza Saatchi},
This paper introduces digital pulse interval modulation with dual header, a new form of digital pulse time modulation scheme offering increase transmission capacity, requiring less transmission bandwidth, and it has built-in frame and slot synchronisation capability. Theoretical expressions are describing the code characteristics and showing the advantages of this new scheme. Matlab is used to simulate the proposed scheme and a selection of waveforms are also presented.

Dual header-pulse interval modulation (DH-PIM) for optical communication systems

The results obtained show that DH-PIM offers higher transmission capacity than PPM and PIM, and the simulation result for the slot error rate is in a good agreement with the predicted result.

Performance of dual header-pulse interval modulation (DH-PIM) for optical wireless communication systems

It is shown that, DH-PIM offers higher bit rate and has a built-in frame synchronization capability and the optimum system performance in terms of optical power and bandwidth requirements is achieved at bit resolution of 5.12.

Multilevel Dual Header Pulse Interval Modulation Scheme for Optical Wireless Communications

Theoretical and simulation results indicate the better transmission rate of data, bandwidth requirement and transmission power of the MDH-PIM modulation than the Dual Header Pulse Interval Modulation (DH-P IM) and Digital Pulse interval modulation (DPIM) schemes.

A novel soft-decision decoding technology in diffuse optical wireless networks employing DH-PIM

The performance of DH-PIM is analyzed in the presence of intersymbol interference and the channel impulse response and symbol error rate versus normalized delay spread are discussed and a soft-decision decoding technology is presented, which can improve the performance.

A synopsis of modulation techniques for wireless infrared communication

A number of modulation techniques have been proposed and thoroughly analysed in literature for optical wireless communication systems. Each modulation technique has its unique attractive features as

Performance of OOK and Variants of PPM in APD based Free Space Optical Communication Systems

This paper presents a comparative study of the performance of commonly used modulation techniques for Indoor Optical Wireless Communications. Some commonly used modulation schemes such as OOK, PPM,

A New Optical Communication System Using the Pulse Interval and Width Modulated Code

This paper proposes a new optical communication system using the Pulse Interval and Width Modulated Code. It is constructed as combinations of pulse width and interval. Then it is easy to understand

Pulse time modulation techniques for optical communications: a review

The principal factor in realising a high-performance bandwidth-efficient fibre communication system at an acceptable cost is the choice of modulation format on the optical carrier. In this context,

PPM versus PCM for optical local-area networks

Pulse-position modulation (PPM) is presented within the context of a local-area network (LAN) application. A simplified analysis is used to calculate the advantage of converting from pulse-code

A comparison of coherent digital PPM with PCM

It is concluded that for moderate to high fibre bandwidths homodyne digital PPM should achieve an improvement in sensitivity of typically 5 dB over homo-dyne PSK PCM.

This book discusses Elements of an Electrical Communication System, a manual for the design of Communication Channels and their Characteristics, and Random Processes: Basic Concepts, which describes random processes in the Frequency Domain.

Digital pulse interval modulation for optical communications

It is shown that for a given number of bits per symbol, DPIM has a higher transmission capacity, a similar spectral profile, and only a marginally inferior error probability performance compared with pulse position modulation, and is rather less complex to implement.
