Ten adult myotonic dystrophy patients underwent measurements of lung function, maximal dynamic and static ventilatory efforts, and respiratory muscle electromyography (EMG). EMG studies were performed during spontaneous breathing or when subjects breathed through high inspiratory or expiratory resistive loads.
