Disruption and degradation of interstitial elastic fibers are significant characteristics of pulmonary emphysema. In order to examine the responses of elastogenic cells to the conditions mimicking degradation of interstitial pulmonary elastin, rat pulmonary fibroblast cultures were used as an in vitro model.
