To evaluate the protective role of pterostilbene (PTE) on spinal cord injury (SCI) in SD rats. SD rats were randomly divided into three groups: sham group (laminectomy only); SCI group; SCI + PTE (15 mg/kg) group. SCI was induced using the modified weight-drop method (10 g × 4 cm) at the 10th thoracic vertebral (T10) level. PTE (15 mg/kg) or vehicle was administered twice by subarachnoid injection at lumbar 4 level twenty minutes and two hours after SCI. After 4 weeks of SCI, the injury part of… Expand

Aescin reduces oxidative stress and provides neuroprotection in experimental traumatic spinal cord injury.
TLDR
The results of this study suggest that aescin is a good candidate for SCI treatment in humans, with a focus on its neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidative properties. Expand
Simvastatin treatment improves functional recovery after experimental spinal cord injury by upregulating the expression of BDNF and GDNF
TLDR
It is suggested that simvastatin treatment starting 1 day after SCI can significantly improve locomotor recovery, and this neuroprotective effect may be related to the upregulation of BDNF and GDNF. Expand
Pterostilbene Attenuates Early Brain Injury Following Subarachnoid Hemorrhage via Inhibition of the NLRP3 Inflammasome and Nox2-Related Oxidative Stress
TLDR
This study suggests that PTE attenuates EBI following SAH possibly via the inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome and Nox2-related oxidative stress. Expand
Prolonged constriction of sciatic nerve affecting oxidative stressors & antioxidant enzymes in rat.
TLDR
Oxidative stress evidenced by increased MDA, AOPP and decreased GSH and catalase support the generation of reactive oxygen species in constriction model and may be useful for future studies. Expand
Role of reactive oxygen species in modulation of Nrf2 following ischemic reperfusion injury
TLDR
It is suggested that Nrf2 reduces ischemic brain injury by protecting against oxidative stress by reducing ischemia/reperfusion injury. Expand
Simvastatin mobilizes bone marrow stromal cells migrating to injured areas and promotes functional recovery after spinal cord injury in the rat
TLDR
In conclusion, simvastatin can help to repair spinal cord injury in rat, where the underlying mechanism appears to involve the mobilization of bone marrow stromal cells to the injured area and higher expression of BNDF and VEGF. Expand
Role of leukocytes in spinal cord injury in rats.
TLDR
The role of leukocytes in pathologic mechanisms of trauma-induced SCI in rats is described, which contributes to new understanding of the pathologic process involved in SCI and could lead to the development of new therapeutic strategies by which leukocyte activation can be regulated. Expand
The cellular inflammatory response in human spinal cords after injury.
TLDR
Data indicate that potentially destructive neutrophils and activated microglia, replete with oxidative and proteolytic enzymes, appear within the first few days of SCI, suggesting that anti-inflammatory 'neuroprotective' strategies should be directed at preventing early neutrophil influx and modifying microglial activation. Expand
17β-Estradiol Attenuates Neural Cell Apoptosis Through Inhibition of JNK Phosphorylation in SCI Rats and Excitotoxicity Induced by Glutamate In Vitro
TLDR
The results suggest that neuroprotection from E2 is partially mediated by the inhibition of JNK phosphorylation, which is blocked by the co-administration of SP600125. Expand
Pterostilbene is more potent than resveratrol in preventing azoxymethane (AOM)-induced colon tumorigenesis via activation of the NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-mediated antioxidant signaling pathway.
TLDR
This study investigates whether RS and PS could prevent the azoxymethane (AOM)-induced colon tumorigenesis via antioxidant action and to explore possible molecular mechanisms, and demonstrates that PS is a Nrf2 inducer and AR inhibitor in the AOM-treated colon carcinogenesis model. Expand
