Okamgba}, year={2018} }
This study investigated the hemostatic status of some hypertensive patients. Blood samples were collected from 15 males and 17 females known hypertensive patients between 42-63 years attending the general out -patient clinic of the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa. Another 21 non-normotensive subjects between 18-40 years served as the controls. All the subjects gave their consent. Prothrombin time activated partial thromboplastin time and platelets counts were determined following standard…

No significant variation suggests no risk of hypercoagulability or coagulopathy; while platelets values before and after menstruation suggestNo risk of thrombocytosis among the age grade under study.
A COMPARISON OF PLATELET INDICES OF NORMOTENSIVE , HYPERTENSIVE , AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANT WOMEN IN PAKISTAN
- Medicine
- 2019
The study observed no significant difference in between hypertensive and normotensive pregnant females (p-value = 0.05), whereas, there was a significant reduction in the mean values of PCT in control and preeclamptic females.

Measurements of PT and APTT may serve as indices for evaluating hemostatic abnormalities in hypertensive patients and guide for antihypertensive therapy, and are recommended to conduct D-dimer, platelet factors, and protein assays.
Assessment of Some Haemostatic Parameters Among Diabetes Mellitus Patients in Bayelsa State: A Case Study at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa
- Medicine, Biology
- 2017
Prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time were significantly lower while platelets counts were significantly higher in the diabetes mellitus patients compared to the control, suggesting hyper-coagulability which may lead to adverse cardiovascular andThrombotic complications among the diabetes Mellitus patients.
Effect of Exercise on Some Haemostatic Parameters Among Students in a Tertiary Educational Institution in Nigeria
- Education
- 2017
PT and APTT showed significant decline after the exercise indicating activation of the coagulation cascade which may lead to hypercoagulability predisposing the subjects to an increased risk of cardiovascular derangement; while PLT showed no variation suggesting no risk of thrombocytopenia or thromBocytosis.
Short activated partial thromboplastin times are related to increased thrombin generation and an increased risk for thromboembolism.
- MedicineAmerican journal of clinical pathology

Unexpectedly, patients with acute bleeding had short aPTTs, but 36% of these also had thromboembolic events during the 18 months proximal to blood collection, despite the fact that a long aPTT can occur in the acute setting of bleeding.
Prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and international normalized ratio (INR) as predictive factors of coagulopathy in newly diagnosed hypertensive patients

PT and APTT are basic coagulation tests which measure integrated actions of majority of coagulations factors in extrinsic and intrinsic pathways ofCoagulation cascade of blood.
Effect of plasma storage on prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time at a Nigerian public laboratory
- Medicine
- 2013
For reliable PT and APTT results, samples should be processed and run immediately after collection, however, plasma for PT can be stored at 2°-4°C for only 4 h, while the APTT showed significant differences between 0 h value and values at 4, 6, and 24 h for all the varying temperature conditions.

There was a significant difference the reduction of platelet count, and the prolongation of PT and APTT in chronic hepatitis compared to hepatic cirrhosis (p=0.000), and the three parameters may be used to evaluate the progression of chronic hepatitis towards liver failure.

Hematological parameters and serum fibrinogen are decreased in HIV positive patients especially in direct relation with CD4+ cell count<200 cell/µl and PT and PTT abnormal values are also more prevalent in this population.
