The general transcription factor TFIID is a multisubunit complex of TATA-binding protein (TBP) and 14 distinct TBP-associated factors (TAFs). Although TFIID constituents are required for transcription initiation of most mRNA encoding genes, the mechanism of TFIID action remains unclear.
