Low-density lipoprotein apheresis (LDL-A) treatment has been shown to decrease serum LDL cholesterol levels and prevent cardiovascular events in homozygous patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. Recently, LDL-A treatment has been suggested to have beneficial effects beyond the removal of LDL particles.
