Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an endothelium-specific, secreted protein that acts as a vasodilator, angiogenic peptide, and hyperpermeability factor. Recent reports have shown that nitric oxide synthase inhibitors block proliferation and microvascular hyperpermeability induced by VEGF.
