Objective: Sepsis can cause serious acute kidney injury inbacterium infected patients, especially for intensive care patients. Icariin is a bioactive flavonoid, which has renal protection and anti-inflammation effects. This study investigated the mechanism underlying the attenuation of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced renal injury by icariin. Methods: ICRmice were treated with LPS (25 mg/kg) with or without treatment with icariin (20 or 40 mg/kg for three days). Renal function, histological…

Alpha-lipoic acid attenuates lipopolysaccharide-induced kidney injury

LA treatment attenuates LPS-induced kidney injury, such as renal tubular dysfunction, by suppression of apoptosis, and inflammation, by attenuated by LA pretreatment.

Aspirin-triggered resolvin D1 down-regulates inflammatory responses and protects against endotoxin-induced acute kidney injury.

Icariin attenuates LPS-induced acute inflammatory responses: involvement of PI3K/Akt and NF-kappaB signaling pathway.

Cisplatin induces acute kidney injury by regulation of p53-dependent renal tubular apoptosis and that luteolin ameliorates the cisplatin-mediated nephrotoxicity through down-regulation of p 53-dependent apoptotic pathway in the kidney is indicated.

Protective effect of icariin on kidney in 5/6 nephrectomized rats and its mechanism.

In conclusion, icariin has a renal protective effect in 5/6 nephrectomized rats, which may be related mainly to alterations in cell cycle distribution and expression of apoptotic genes.

Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Agonists Attenuate Septic Acute Kidney Injury in Mice by Suppressing Inflammation and Proteasome Activity

Renal proteasome activity, a major regulator of NFκB-mediated inflammation, was enhanced by approximately 50% during LPS-induced AKI and elevated proteasomesome activity was significantly blunted by nicotinic agonist administration in vivo.

Sirt1 Deletion Leads to Enhanced Inflammation and Aggravates Endotoxin-Induced Acute Kidney Injury

The results indicate that Sirt1 is protective against LPS-induced acute kidney injury by suppressing kidney inflammation and down-regulating inflammatory signaling.

Icariin supplementation protects mice from exercise-induced oxidant stress in liver

It is demonstrated that icariin supplementation could elevate the exercise endurance and possess protective effect on exercise-induced oxidant stress and is accompanied by corresponding decreases in MDA levels.
