AIM To study the protective effects of Ginkgo biloba extract (GbE) on gastric mucosa. METHODS By means of restaint-cold stress (RCS) in rats and 100% ethanol gavage in mice, the index of gastric mucosal injury was evaluated. The gastric juice was collected using pyloric ligation, and the volume and acidity of juice, and activity of pepsin were determined. The content of malondialdehyde (MDA) was measured by thiobarbituric acid (TBA) method. RESULTS GbE (25, 50, and 100 mg/kg, bid x 5 d, ig… Expand
Protective effects of Ginkgo biloba extract on the ethanol-induced gastric ulcer in rats.
TLDR
GbE significantly inhibited the ethanol-induced gastric lesions in rats and it is suggested that the preventive effect of GbE may be mediated through inhibition of lipid peroxidation; preservation of gastric mucus and NP-SH; and blockade of cell apoptosis. Expand
Evaluation of the anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive and gastric effects of Ginkgo biloba in the rat.
TLDR
GbE may be of clinical value as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug alone or in conjunction with NSAIDs, and in pylorus-ligated rats, GbE increased gastric acid secretion, but reduced gastric mucosal damage caused by IND. Expand
Effect of Ginkgo biloba Leaves Aqueous Extract on Carbon Tetrachloride Induced Acute hepatotoxicity in rats
TLDR
The hepatoprotective effect of GbE against CCl4-induced oxidative damage may be due to its potent antioxidant activity and could be of potential help as a medicament or food supplement for alleviation of liver toxicity. Expand
Exploiting the phenomenal anti-ulcerogenic potential of Talinum portulacifolium ethanolic extract whole plant on Albino Rats: The therapeutic potential of Chinese Herb-mǎ chǐ xiàn kē (Portulacaceae)
TLDR
The ethanolic extract of T. portulacifolium plant was found to possess a significant antiulcer activity and significantly protected the ulceration induced by the three models. Expand
Hepatic fibrosis in biliary-obstructed rats is prevented by Ginkgo biloba treatment.
TLDR
The results suggest that Ginkgo biloba protects the liver from oxidative damage following BDL in rats, and possibly involves the inhibition of neutrophil infiltration and lipid peroxidation; thus, restoration of oxidant and antioxidant status in the tissue. Expand
The Effects of Ginkgo Biloba Extract EGb 761 on Mechanical and Cold Allodynia in a Rat Model of Neuropathic Pain
TLDR
It is concluded that Ginkgo biloba extract, EGb 761, attenuates mechanical and cold allodynia in a rat model of neuropathic pain, and it may be useful for the management of Neuropathic pain. Expand
Is there any relation between moldy building exposure and chronic fatigue syndrome?
TLDR
It seems that, in accordance with the post-infectious theory of CFS, the exposure to moldy conditions may be a trigger for the onset of the syndrome. Expand
The Inflammation Syndrome: The Complete Nutritional Program to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, Arthritis, Diabetes, Allergies, and Asthma
TLDR
This book discusses the Inflammation Syndrome, Diseases, and Specific Conditions, and how to put anti-Inflammatory ingredients to work for yourself. Expand
