The present study was carried out to investigate the protective effects of Danshen (DS, Salvia miltiorrhiza) on adriamycin (ADR)-induced cardiac and hepatic toxicity. Wistar rats were divided into six groups: control group, 10 animals received saline (i.p.); 15 animals received ADR (3 mg/kg, i.p.) three times weekly, for 2 weeks; 10 animals each received DS(1) (20 mg/kg, oral) and DS(2) (100 mg/kg, oral) for 30 days; 15 animals each received DS(1) + ADR and DS(2) + ADR.
