Garcinia mangostana L. (GM, family Guttiferae) is one of the most widely recognized tropical fruits. GM is a wealthy pool of xanthones that exhibit a wide range of bioactivities. Tovophyllin A (TA) separated from GM pericarps was tested for its efficacy to ameliorate acetaminophen (APAP)-induced liver injury. Mice were injected with a single dose of APAP with or without TA pretreatment. The protective effects of TA against APAP-induced liver damage were evident through amelioration of serum… Expand
Guavinoside B from Psidium guajava alleviates acetaminophen-induced liver injury via regulating the Nrf2 and JNK signaling pathways.
TLDR
Investigation of the protective effects of guavinoside B (GUB), a main benzophenone glycoside present in guava fruit, against acetaminophen (APAP)-induced liver injury suggested that GUB showed potent hepatoprotective effects through regulating the Nrf2 and JNK signaling pathways. Expand
Hepatoprotective Activity of the Ethanolic Extract of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. against Oxidative Stress-Induced Liver Injury
TLDR
The hepatoprotective activity of PME is shown by regulating the redox state in liver injury through Nrf2 activation and controlling hepatic bile acid homeostasis in obstructive cholestasis, through bile Acid transporter expression modulation. Expand
Chrysanthemum extract attenuates hepatotoxicity via inhibiting oxidative stress in vivo and in vitro
TLDR
BZE plays an important role in preventing hepatotoxicity by inhibiting oxidative stress and apoptosis through activation of Nrf2 signaling and could be developed as an effective functional food for protecting the liver. Expand
Prenylated xanthones from mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) activate the AhR and Nrf2 pathways and protect intestinal barrier integrity in HT-29 cells.
TLDR
Garcinone D significantly upregulated AhR/Cyp1a1 and Nrf2/HO-1 protein expression and enhanced zonula occludens-1 and Occludin protein levels in HT-29 cells, highlighting a dual mechanism by GarD that confers protection against intestinal epithelial barrier dysfunction. Expand
Protective anti-inflammatory activity of tovophyllin A against acute lung injury and its potential cytotoxicity to epithelial lung and breast carcinomas
TLDR
TA ameliorates LPS-induced ALI through the suppression of oxidative stress and inflammation and the potential use of this compound is suggested as a future treatment for ALI. Expand
Hepatoprotective effects of ginsenoside Rk3 in acetaminophen-induced liver injury in mice by activation of autophagy.
Acetaminophen (APAP)-induced acute liver injury (AIALI) is one of the most common causes of acute liver failure. Owing to the limitations of N-acetylcysteine (NAC), which is the only antidoteExpand
Camellia japonica diminishes acetaminophen-induced acute liver failure by attenuating oxidative stress in mice
TLDR
CJ attenuated APAP-induced ALF by inhibiting COX-2 activation, NF-κB, and JNK phosphorylation and activating the AMPK signaling pathway, as confirmed by significantly reduced serum toxicity biomarkers and improved hepatic pathological damage. Expand
Protective effect of Que Zui tea hot-water and aqueous ethanol extract against acetaminophen-induced liver injury in mice via inhibition of oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that Que Zui tea hot-water extract and aqueous-ethanol extract could effectively protect APAP hepatotoxicity, which might be attributed to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptosis activities. Expand
γ-Oryzanol alleviates acetaminophen-induced liver injury: roles of modulating AMPK/GSK3β/Nrf2 and NF-κB signaling pathways.
TLDR
The findings revealed that ORY is capable of ameliorating APAP-induced liver injury and the modulation of AMPK/GSK3β/Nrf2 and NF-κB signaling pathways is implicated in the hepatoprotective activity of ORY. Expand
