The present investigation was directed to study the possible protective activity of quercetin—a natural antioxidant against dimethoate-induced cyto- and genotoxicity in meristematic cells of Allium sativum. So far there is no report on the biological properties of quercetin in plant test systems. Chromosome breaks, multipolar anaphase, stick chromosome, and mitotic activity were undertaken in the current study as markers of cyto- and genotoxicity. Untreated control, quercetin controls (@ 5, 10…

Dimethoate induces genotoxicity as a result of oxidative stress: in vivo and in vitro studies
New studies within the field are important for better understanding the pathobiological events of genotoxicity on human cells, particularly to explain what cells and/or tissues are more sensitive to genotoxic insult induced by dimethoate.
Quercetin, a Flavonoid Antioxidant, Ameliorated Procarbazine-Induced Oxidative Damage to Murine Tissues
QCT pre-treatment and co-treatment ameliorated the PCZ-induced changes in plasma levels of urea, creatinine, and bilirubin as well as the activities of ALP, AST, ALT, and GGT.
Cherry Laurel Fruit Extract Counters Dimethoate-induced Reproductive Impairment and Testicular Apoptosis
Cherry laurel extract significantly countered many dimethoate-induced adverse effects, both as pre- and post-treatment, including reproductive organ weight, semen parameters, oxidant-antioxidant balance, sperm DNA integrity, testicular apoptosis, and histological structure.

Protective effect of quercetin and luteolin in human melanoma HMB-2 cells.
Genotoxicity Evaluation of Dimethoate to Experimental Mice by Micronucleus, Chromosome Aberration Tests, and Comet Assay
Results showed that, after a subchronic exposure, DM was a genotoxic compound in experimental mice and was found to induce significant DNA damage in mouse bone marrow cells as assessed by the comet assay.
The impact of quercetin on cisplatin-induced clastogenesis and apoptosis in murine marrow cells.
Overall, this study provides for the first time that quercetin has a protective role in the abatement of cisplatin-induced clastogenesis and apoptosis in the bone marrow cells of mice that resides, at least in part, in its antioxidant effects.
Lack of Effect of the Flavonoids, Myricetin, Quercetin, and Rutin, on Repair of H2O2;-Induced DNA Single-Strand Breaks in Caco-2, Hep G2, and V79 Cells
None of the three flavonoids increased the rate of repair of strand breaks in any of the cell types, however, from the results of this study.
The changes of antioxidant defense system caused by quercetin administration do not lead to DNA damage and apoptosis in the spleen and bone marrow cells of rats.

Dichlorophen and Dichlorovos mediated genotoxic and cytotoxic assessment on root meristem cells of Allium cepa
Plants are direct recipients of agro – toxics and therefore important materials for assessing environmental chemicals for genotoxicity. The meristematic mitotic cell of Allium cepa is an efficient
Simultaneous geno- and immunotoxicological investigations for early detection of organophosphate toxicity in rats.
The genot toxicological approach seems to be more sensitive for detection of repeated-dose oral toxicity of the investigated two organophosphates than the immunotoxicological one.

The current review presents the most recent findings on quercetin with regard to the pharmacology, the in-vitro and in- vivo effects in different cell systems and animal models, and the clinical effects in humans, finding that quercets enhances physical power by yet unclear mechanisms.
