Renal failure was produced in rats by unilateral clamping of the left renal artery for 60 min, followed by reperfusion and contralateral nephrectomy. Prophylactic administrations of benidipine (10, 30 micrograms/kg, i.v.) significantly ameliorated the development of renal failure as estimated by histological examination as well as by the measurements of serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen. ATP content of the ischemic kidney dropped immediately after renal ischemia, and this decline… Expand
Effects of benidipine hydrochloride (Coniel®), a new calcium antagonist, on the cardiac output, regional blood flow and vascular resistance in conscious, spontaneously hypertensive rats
TLDR
It was concluded that benidipine reduced blood pressure by increasingRBF in the kidney and heart, while keeping RBF in other organs at a normal level, which will provide a fundamental basis in support of the clinical benefits of benidine for hypertensive patients. Expand
Effects of efonidipine hydrochloride (NZ-105), a new calcium antagonist, against acute renal failure in rats.
TLDR
It is suggested thatNZ-105 prevents the renal damage caused by the two kinds of ARF, and the inhibitory effects of NZ-105 against lipid peroxidation and radical formation may be one of the mechanisms involved in the prevention of ARf. Expand
The beneficial effect of 2′-deoxycoformycin in renal ischemia-reperfusion is mediated both by preservation of tissue ATP and inhibition of lipid peroxidation
TLDR
Results suggest that DCF therapy could be beneficial in the treatment of ischemia-reperfusion renal injuries and exerts a dual protective action by facilitating purine salvage for ATP synthesis and inhibiting oxygen radical-induced lipid peroxidation. Expand
Effects of amrinone on bilateral renal ischemia/reperfusion injury
TLDR
Amrinone prevented experimental renal ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats, independently of the administered doses, suggesting this preventive effect of the agent could depend on its effect of regulating the microcirculation, in decreasing intracellular calcium and in preventing neutrophil activation. Expand
Protective effects of benidipine on arachidonic acid-induced acute cerebral ischemia in rats.
TLDR
It is suggested that benidipine as well as nicardipine may protect against AA-induced acute cerebral infarction via a mechanism independent of antithrombotic action. Expand
New Aspects on Ca2+ Antagonism During Myocardial Ischemia Surprisingly Related to Endothelial Autacoids
TLDR
It is concluded in this novel study that NO may be rather derived from ischemic cardiomyocytes than from coronary endothelial cells, and L-type Ca2+ channel blockers not antagonizing endothelial vasorelaxants have been proposed for the management of disorders of the coronary circulation. Expand
Anti‐apoptotic effect of benidipine, a long‐lasting vasodilating calcium antagonist, in ischaemic/reperfused myocardial cells
TLDR
It is demonstrated that benidipine, a calcium antagonist, exerts significant anti‐apoptosis effects, which are independent of haemodynamic changes, which provide additional protection against myocardial necrotic injury and further improved cardiac functional recovery. Expand
Protective effect of benidipine against the development of glomerular sclerosis in experimental nephrotic syndrome.
TLDR
The results suggest that the Ca-channel blocker benidipine is a favorable drug for preventing the progression of glomerular sclerosis and ameliorated the development of renal regeneration as estimated by histological examination. Expand
Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 gene ablation protects mice from ischemic renal injury.
TLDR
Activation of PARP post-IRI contributes to cell death most likely by ATP depletion and augmentation of the inflammatory cascade in the mouse model, and PARP inhibition may have clinical efficacy in preventing the progression of acute renal failure complications. Expand
Effect of Nilvadipine on the Development of Neurological Deficits in Stroke‐Prone Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats
TLDR
Nilvadipine inhibited the development of neurological deficit in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats at plasma concentrations lower than that in clinical use, suggesting it might prevent cerebral vascular disorders at doses routinely used for essential hypertension. Expand

TLDR
It is concluded that verapamil, an inhibitor of cellular membrane transport, when given prior to the renal ischemia, offers a partial but significant protection in this model of ischemic ARF. Expand

Renal Effects of 1,4‐Dihydropyridines in Animal Models of Hypertension and Renal Failure

Renal protective effects are present with DHP-type calcium antagonists; however, mechanisms in situations such as hypertension or acute renal failure might be different and deserve further analysis. Expand
Oxygen free radicals in ischemic acute renal failure in the rat.
TLDR
The oxygen free radical scavengers SOD and DMTU, and allopurinol, which inhibits free radical generation, protected renal function after ischemia, and restoration of oxygen supply to ischemic kidney results in the production of oxygen free radicals, which causes renal injury by lipid peroxidation. Expand
Ischemic acute renal failure. Pathogenetic steps leading to acute tubular necrosis
TLDR
It may be that Ca++ leak into the cytosol of ischemically damaged kidney cells eventually aborts the Mito recovery which accompanies reflow; these impermeant solutes (by preventing cell swelling) and the Ca++ blocker Verapamil may work by different mechanisms to prevent increased cytosolic Ca++ after renal ischemia. Effects of free radical scavengers on renal circulation after ischaemia in the rabbit.
TLDR
In non-pretreated ischaemic kidneys there was a significant trapping of labelled erythrocytes in the outer stripe of the medulla and this trapping was not seen in non-ischaemic control kidneys and was completely prevented by pretreatment with either superoxide dismutase or catalase. Expand
