The generation of lipoxygenase products on the contraction elicited by prostaglandin (PG) F2 alpha was investigated in the guinea-pig isolated trachea. Indomethacin (5 x 10(-6) M) inhibited the response at low concentrations of PGF2 alpha while enhanced the response at higher concentrations of PGF2 alpha. Phenidone (10(-4) M) and nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA, 3 x 10(-5) M) appeared to inhibit the PGF2 alpha response. The PGF2 alpha response augmented by indomethacin was dose-dependently… Expand

Inhibitory effects of a lipoxygenase inhibitor nordihydroguaiaretic acid on antagonism of leukotriene C4-induced contractions of isolated guinea-pig trachea.
TLDR
The results suggest that some putative non-prostanoids are involved in LTC4-induced contractions of guinea-pig trachea and which regulate the effects of LTD4 antagonism and beta-adrenoceptor activation. Expand
NIP-121 and cromakalim, potassium channel openers, preferentially suppress prostanoid-induced contraction of the guinea-pig isolated trachea.
TLDR
NIP-121 and cromakalim reversed the contraction induced by PGF2 alpha, PGD2 and the TXA2 mimetic, U46619, and the effects were more potent than those observed on the contractioninduced by leukotriene (LT) D4, LTC4, histamine and acetylcholine. Expand
Effects of NZ-107 on tracheal responses to adenosine in the guinea pig.
TLDR
The results suggest that NZ-107 may have a unique profile for adenosine responses in bronchial asthma. Expand
Inhibitory effect of the newly synthesized pyridazinone derivative NZ-107 on bronchoconstriction induced by slow reacting substance of anaphylaxis in the guinea pig.
TLDR
NZ-107 is a selective inhibitor of the SRS-A response and may be useful in the therapy of bronchial asthma and other diseases in which the LTs are thought to be involved. Expand
Role of prostanoids in respiratory failure during circulatory shock of intestinal origin in dogs.
TLDR
The present results suggest that PGF2 alpha and thromboxane A2 released by intestinal tissues might play an important role in the development of respiratory failure in shock caused by intestinal ischemia. Expand

TLDR
It is demonstrated that indomethacin does not result in increased synthesis of LTs in the airways and has no modulatory effect on the release of LTC4-like material in the parenchyma. Expand

Interaction between aspirin and prostaglandins in the isolated guinea-pig tracheal muscle.
TLDR
It is suggested that PGE2 plays an important role in the maintenance of the resting tonus of the isolated guinea-pig tracheal chain, and in large doses it also acts as atracheal relaxant and attenuates the trachea responses to PGF2 alpha and histamine. Expand

The possibility that histamine H1‐agonist‐induced contractions are regulated by contractile products of the arachidonic acid lipoxygenase pathway is discussed. Expand

The characterization of its effects on the latter organ indicates that leukotriene B4 contracts guinea-pig trachea zig-zag strips in a concentration-dependent manner from 5 X 10(-9) to 5X 10(-7) M. Expand
ANTAGONISM OF TONE AND PROSTAGLANDIN‐MEDIATED RESPONSES IN A TRACHEAL PREPARATION BY INDOMETHACIN AND SC‐19220
TLDR
The evidence suggests that prostaglandins may be involved in the maintenance of tone of the guinea‐pig isolated tracheal preparation and on the responses of the preparation to prostaglandsin F2α, arachidonic acid and methacholine. Expand

TLDR
The data suggest that when the conversion of L TC4 to LTD4 and subsequently to LTE4 is blocked by L-serine borate FPL55712 is ineffective in antagonizing the actions of LTC4, which would indicate that LTC 4 occupies a distinct LT receptor in guinea-pig trachea which is insensitive to the actions. Pharmacological and biochemical evidence for metabolism of peptide leukotrienes by guinea-pig airway smooth muscle in vitro.
TLDR
The results suggest that L TC4 is converted to LTD4 and subsequently to LTE4 by isolated guinea-pig trachea and the potency of LTC4 and LTD4 is increased when their transformation to LTE 4 is prevented. Expand
A POSSIBLE ROLE FOR LIPOXYGENASE PRODUCTS AS REGULATORS OF AIRWAY SMOOTH MUSCLE REACTIVITY
TLDR
Compounds which inhibit both the cyclo‐oxygenase and lipoxygenases pathways of arachidonic acid metabolism not only did not augment histamine‐induced contractions of the guinea‐pig trachea, but also completely reversed the increased reactivity to histamine produced by indomethacin. Expand
