It is now 20 years since Moncada and Vane discovered prostaglandin I2 (PGI2) [1] and named it “prostacyclin”. Since then, interest in the theoretical background and clinical application of this natural agent has increased continuously. This review summarizes the pharmacological properties and endogenous role of PGI2.
