We studied the ability of the agonist of κ1-opioid receptors U-50,488 in doses of 0.1 and 1 mg/kg to simulate ischemic pre- and postconditioning of the heart and κ-opioid receptors ICI 199,441 in a dose of 0.1 mg/kg to simulate the antiarrhythmic effect of heart preconditioning. The duration of ischemia was 10 or 45 min and the duration of reperfusion was 10 min or 2 h. Administration of 1 mg/kg U-50,488 both before ischemia and 5 min before reperfusion produced a pronounced antiarrhythmic…
Effect of chronic continuous normobaric hypoxia on functional state of cardiac mitochondria and tolerance of isolated rat heart to ischemia and reperfusion: role of µ and delta2 opioid receptors.
TLDR
Adaptation to CNH decreased myocardial creatine kinase release during reperfusion and improved the postischemic recovery of contractile function and CNH improved mitochondrial state 3 and uncoupled respiration rates, ADP/O, mitochondrial transmembrane potential and calcium retention capacity and myocardian ATP level during reperFusion compared to the normoxic group.
κ-opioid receptor agonists may alleviate intestinal damage in cardiopulmonary bypass rats by inhibiting the NF-κB/HIF-1α pathway
TLDR
It is suggested that KOR agonists are able to ameliorate the intestinal barrier dysfunction in rats undergoing CPB by inhibiting the expression levels of NF-κB/HIF-1α signaling pathway-related proteins.
U-47700 and Its Analogs: Non-Fentanyl Synthetic Opioids Impacting the Recreational Drug Market
TLDR
The evidence demonstrates that U-47700 is a potent μ-opioid receptor agonist, which poses a serious risk for overdosing and death, however, most analogs of U- 47700 appear to be less potent and have been detected infrequently in forensic specimens.
DARK Classics in Chemical Neuroscience: U-47700.
TLDR
This review will capture the >40-year history of U-47700, and go in-depth regarding the synthesis, medicinal chemistry, in vitro/in vivo pharmacology, drug metabolism (from post-mortem over-dose cases), and the societal impact of this DARK Classic in chemical neuroscience.

Characterization of opioid receptors in post-heart transplantation, diabetic heart, great vessels, and cardioprotective role in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury
TLDR
This book discusses the development of the cardiac structure and function of the opioids in the body, and the role of receptors in this structure and its development.
HDAC inhibition Protects Cardiomyocytes by Modulating Expression of Opioid Receptor and Inducing Pro-survival Autophagy by Inhibiting Class I HDACs during Cardiac Ischemia / Reperfusion
TLDR
This paper presents a meta-modelling study of the role of autophagy and cardioprotection in the etiology of heart disease and its role in the pathophysiology of stroke.

Effect of Exogenous Kappa-Opioid Receptor Activation in Rat Model of Myocardial Infarction
TLDR
It is demonstrated that KOR activation provides a similar degree of infarct size reduction as DOR activation and KOR agonists also reduced arrhythmogenesis; however, these responses appear to be independent of KORactivation.
Activation of kappa-opioid receptors at reperfusion affords cardioprotection in both rat and mouse hearts
TLDR
It is shown that κ-ORs afford cardioprotection primarily when activated prior to and not after reperfusion, and this protection may involve activation of the PI3 kinase (PI3K) pathway and mitochondrial (mito) KATP channels.
Ischemic preconditioning and morphine-induced cardioprotection involve the delta (delta)-opioid receptor in the intact rat heart.
TLDR
The results of the present study suggest a role of delta;-opioid receptors in ischemic PC or morphine-induced myocardial protection in the rat.
Inhibition of myocardial injury by ischemic postconditioning during reperfusion: comparison with ischemic preconditioning.
TLDR
It is suggested that Post-con is as effective as Pre-con in reducing infarct size and preserving endothelial function, and may be clinically applicable in coronary interventions, coronary artery bypass surgery, organ transplantation, and peripheral revascularization where reperfusion injury is expressed.
Cardioprotective effect of chronic hypoxia is blunted by concomitant hypercapnia.
TLDR
It is concluded that increased CO(2) levels in the inspired air suppress the development of the chronic hypoxia-induced cardioprotective mechanism, possibly by interacting with ROS signalling pathways.
Prolonged impairment of coronary vasodilation after reversible ischemia. Evidence for microvascular "stunning".
TLDR
A brief (15 minute), reversible ischemic insult causes a prolonged increase in resting vascular resistance and a prolonged impairment in vasodilator responsiveness, both of which persist for at least 4 hours.
