BACKGROUND/PURPOSE In spite of the conclusions of the Asymptomatic Carotid Atherosclerosis Study, some clinicians are still reluctant to recommend carotid endarterectomy (CEA) for patients with asymptomatic > or = 60% carotid stenosis (ACS).
