The effects of statins on bone formation in periprosthetic osteolysis have not been determined to date. We investigated the effect of the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor simvastatin on osteoblastic bone formation under conditions of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) particle-induced osteolysis.
