Intestinal microorganisms play an important role in plant fiber degradation by larvae of the rose chafer Pachnoda marginata. In the hindgut of the larvae 2.5 to 7.4 × 108 bacteria per ml of gut content with xylanase or endoglucanase activity were found. Bacteria in the midgut were not (hemi)cellulolytic, but the alkaline environment in this part of the intestinal tract functions as a precellulolytic phase, solubilizing part of the lignocellulosic material. Accordingly, the degradation of… Expand
Isolation and Identification of Cellulolytic Bacteria from the Gut of Holotrichia parallela Larvae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae)
TLDR
The results suggest that a significant amount of bacterial diversity exists among the cellulolytic bacteria, and that Siphonobacter aquaeclarae, Cellulosimicrobium funkei, Paracoccus sulfuroxidans, Ochrobactrum cytisi, and Pseudomonas nitroreducens are reported to be cellulolytics for the first time in this study. Expand
Cellulolytic Bacteria Associated with the Gut of Dendroctonus armandi Larvae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae)
TLDR
Investigation of the cellulolytic bacterial community in the intestine of the Chinese white pine beetle larvae found members of Bacillus, Brevundimonas, Paenibacillus, Pseudoxanthomonas, Methylobacterium and Sphingomonas were found in the D. armandi larva gut. Expand

The results of the phylogenetic analysis allowed the genotypic and phenotypic differentiation of strain EUM 273(T) from the closest related species with validly published names. Expand
Myceligenerans xiligouense gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel hyphae-forming member of the family Promicromonosporaceae.
TLDR
On the basis of morphological, chemotaxonomic, metabolic and phylogenetic differences from other species of Promicromonosporaceae, a new genus and species, Myceligenerans xiligouense gen. nov., sp. Expand
Xylanolytic and Alkaliphilic Dietzia sp. Isolated from Larvae of the Japanese Horned Beetle, Trypoxylus dichotomus
TLDR
Xylanolytic strains of bacteria isolated from the hindgut and feces of T. dichotomus larvae and putrid wood used for feeding of the larva seemed to belong to the genus Dietzia by 16S rDNA analysis, suggesting that the β-1,4-xylanase may have become adapted to the alkaline lumen of the gut. Expand
Reclassification of Cellulosimicrobium variabile Bakalidou et al. 2002 as Isoptericola variabilis gen. nov., comb. nov.
TLDR
A novel genus and combination for C. variabile, Isoptericola variabilis gen. nov., comb, is proposed on the basis of distinct phylogenetic position and the amino acid composition of peptidoglycan. Expand
Exploring the gut of Helicoverpa armigera for cellulose degrading bacteria and evaluation of a potential strain for lignocellulosic biomass deconstruction
Abstract The present study demonstrates the enrichment, isolation and identification of cellulose degrading bacteria from the gut of cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera. The isolate MD21 wasExpand
Isolation of cellulolytic bacteria from the gastro-intestinal tract of Achatina fulica (Gastropoda: Pulmonata) and their evaluation for cellulose biodegradation

The utility of snail gut as a rich source for isolation of cellulose degrading bacteria that can have many industrial applications is demonstrated. Expand
Promicromonospora umidemergens sp. nov., isolated from moisture from indoor wall material.
TLDR
DNA-DNA hybridization values and physiological and biochemical data enabled strain 09-Be-007(T) to be differentiated genotypically and phenotypically from the six recognized species of the genus Promicromonospora. Expand
Microbial Community Structure in Midgut and Hindgut of the Humus-Feeding Larva of Pachnoda ephippiata (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae)
TLDR
The gut of the model organism, the humivorous larva of the cetoniid beetle Pachnoda ephippiata, is characterized by strong midgut alkalinity, high concentrations of microbial fermentation products, and the presence of a diverse, yet unstudied microbial community. Expand
