The paper describes the main design objectives and salient features of the MIRFAC programming language, and includes an account of some of the recent developments. Particular emphasis is laid on the “two-dimensional” features and examples, taken mainly from user programmes, are given which demonstrate the power of these features both in programming and in the printing of algebraic output.
