Antlers are the only mammalian appendages capable of epimorphic regeneration and thus provide a unique model for investigating the mechanisms that underlie mammalian regeneration. Antlers elongate by a modified endochondral ossification process while intramembranous ossification takes place concurrently around the antler shaft.
