Maternal insulin resistance is essential for efficient provision of glucose to the fetus. Although elevation of placental hormones is known to relate to the development of insulin resistance, the precise underlying mechanism of maternal insulin resistance is unknown. Therefore, we examined the molecular mechanisms of progesterone causing insulin resistance in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Progesterone at 10(-4) M, but not 10(-5) M, reduced the amount of IRS-1. As a result, insulin-induced phosphorylation…

NOD1 activation induces proinflammatory gene expression and insulin resistance in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.
TLDR
The results suggest that NOD1, a member of PRR, may be involved in adipose inflammation and insulin resistance.
Effect of leptin gene methylation on glucose metabolism in pregnant rats
TLDR
High levels of progesterone, insulin, and leptin contribute to physiological insulin resistance during gestation, resulting in reduced fasting blood glucose and glucose resistance.
Obesity induced by high-fat diet promotes insulin resistance in the ovary.
TLDR
The ovary from high-fat-fed female rats showed a reduction in the insulin receptor substrate/phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/AKT intracellular pathway, associated with an increase in FOXO3a, IL1B, and TNFalpha protein expression, which may have a role in the infertile state associated with obesity.
Characterization And Manipulation Of O-Glcnacylation In Granulosa Cells Of Bovine Ovarian Antral Follicles
Glucose is widely recognized as the preferred energy substrate for metabolism by granulosa cells (GCs). Yet in most cells, 2-5% of glucose is shunted through the hexosamine biosynthesis pathway (HBP)
Relationship among Insulin Resistance, Growth Hormone, and Insulin‐Like Growth Factor I Concentrations in Diestrous Swedish Elkhounds
TLDR
It was showed that GH was strongly associated with insulin resistance in older Swedish Elkhounds during diestrus, and alterations in these hormones could predict diESTrus‐linked diseases and all‐cause mortality.
Molecular pathways disrupted by gestational diabetes mellitus.
TLDR
A review of a number of candidate regulators of insulin resistance, inflammation and endothelial cell dysfunction in placenta, maternal adipose tissue and skeletal muscle that may represent potential sites for intervention that may translate to therapeutic interventions to prevent the development of Gestational diabetes mellitus.
Spironolactone, but not eplerenone, impairs glucose tolerance in a rat model of metabolic syndrome.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that in comparison with EPL, SPL characteristically impairs glucose tolerance in an animal model of metabolic syndrome, in association with a higher blood level of aldosterone.
Conventional progesterone receptors (PR) B and PRA are expressed in human spermatozoa and may be involved in the pathophysiology of varicocoele: a role for progesterone in metabolism.
TLDR
The results showed that varicocoele may lead to male factor infertility by a mechanism involving a decreased PR expression in human spermatozoa that evidences a detrimental effect on spermatozosa at the molecular level, going beyond the abnormal sperm morphology described to date.

Dexamethasone-induced insulin resistance in 3T3-L1 adipocytes is due to inhibition of glucose transport rather than insulin signal transduction.
TLDR
The GLUT1 decrease may be involved in the dexamethasone-induced decrease in basal glucose transport activity, and the mechanism of dexamethylamethas one-induced insulin resistance in glucose transportactivity (rather than the inhibition of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase activation resulting from a decreased IRS-1 content) is likely to underlie impaired glucose transporter regulation.
Alterations in insulin signalling pathway induced by prolonged insulin treatment of 3T3-L1 adipocytes
TLDR
Insulin-induced glucose transport stimulation, which results from the translocation of glucose transporter 4 (GLUT 4)-containing vesicles, is completely blocked after prolonged insulin treatment of 3T3-L1 adipocytes, and an insulin-resistant state with a reduced ability of insulin to stimulate the PI3-kinase and the MAP-kinases is indicated.
Inhibition of endogenous SHIP2 ameliorates insulin resistance caused by chronic insulin treatment in 3T3-L1 adipocytes
TLDR
The results indicate that the inhibition of endogenous SHIP2 is effective in improving the state of insulin resistance caused by chronic insulin treatment.
Inhibition of insulin sensitivity by free fatty acids requires activation of multiple serine kinases in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.
TLDR
The FFA-signaling pathway that contributes to serine phosphorylation and degradation of IRS-1 in adipocytes and in dietary obese mice is explored and this molecular mechanism may be responsible for insulin resistance associated with hyperlipidemia.
Altered subcellular distribution of estrogen receptor alpha is implicated in estradiol-induced dual regulation of insulin signaling in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.
TLDR
The results indicate that E2 affects the metabolic action of insulin in a concentration-specific manner, that high concentrations of E2 inhibit insulin signaling by modulating phosphorylation of IRS-1 at Ser(307) via a c-Jun NH(2)-terminal kinase-dependent pathway, and that the subcellular redistribution of estrogen receptor alpha in response to E2 may explain the dual effect of E1.
Human placental growth hormone increases expression of the p85 regulatory unit of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and triggers severe insulin resistance in skeletal muscle.
TLDR
It is suggested that hPGH may contribute to the insulin resistance of normal pregnancy by increasing the expression of the p85 alpha monomer, which competes in a dominant negative fashion with the p 85-p110 heterodimer for binding to IRS-1 protein.
Insulin-stimulated GLUT4 translocation requires the CAP-dependent activation of TC10
TLDR
It is shown that phosphorylated Cbl recruits the CrkII–C3G complex to lipid rafts, where C3G specifically activates the small GTP-binding protein TC10, which is essential for insulin-stimulated glucose uptake and GLUT4 translocation.
Minireview: Multiplicity of Progesterone's Actions and Receptors in the Mammalian Ovary1
TLDR
The role that progesterone (P4) plays in regulating granulosa and luteal cell function is summarized and the receptor/signal transduction pathways that influence some aspect of ovarian function are summarized.
Multiple Defects in the Adipocyte Glucose Transport System Cause Cellular Insulin Resistance in Gestational Diabetes: Heterogeneity in the Number and a Novel Abnormality in Subcellular Localization of GLUT4 Glucose Transporters
TLDR
In GDM, insulin resistance in adipocytes involves impaired stimulation of glucose transport and arises from a heterogeneity of defects intrinsic to the glucose transport effector system, suggesting that abnormalities in cellular traffic or targeting relegate GLUT4 to a membrane compartment from which insulin cannot recruit transporters to the cell surface.
