Summaryd-Norgestrel2 and norethisterone3 are progestagens derived from 19-nortestosterone. They are used as oral contraceptives when given continuously in small doses (d-norgestrel 0.03 mg [30 μg]; northisterone 0.35 mg [350 μg]).Results of recent clinical trials of low dosages of norgestrel and norethisterone indicate that their contraceptive efficacy is slightly less than that reported for conventional oestrogen-progestagen combinations but greater than that of intra-uterine contraceptive… Expand

Clinical and laboratory findings in a trial of norgestrel, a low-dose progestogen-only contraceptive.
TLDR
Norgestrel appears to be a useful alternative to the combined type of pill for women unsuitable for, or unable to tolerate, oestrogen-containing preparations and on discontinuing the medication fertility is promptly restored. Expand
Clinical and Laboratory Findings in a Trial of Norgestrel, a Low-dose Progestogen-only Contraceptive
TLDR
In view of its main clinical and laboratory characteristics and simple mode of administration, norgestrel appears to be a useful alternative to the combined type of pill for women unsuitable for, or unable to tolerate, oestrogen-containing preparations. Expand
Clinical study of a continuous daily micro-dose progestogen contraceptive--d-norgestrel.
TLDR
D-Norgestrel in this low dose was well accepted and found to be highly effective and the pregnancy rate was zero since there were no pregnancies due to tablet failure. Expand
Preliminary Evaluation of Four Oral Contraceptives Containing only Progestogens
One hundred and seventy-five women took part in a comparative clinical trial of four progestogen-only oral contraceptives and were followed for either a year or until treatment was discontinued.Expand
Contraceptive Action of Continuous Low Doses of Norgestrel
TLDR
The antifertility action of continuous administration of low doses of progestogen may be due to an effect on corpus luteum function, in addition to the effects on cervical mucus, endometrium, and tubal transport of ova. Expand
RANDOMISED DOUBLE-BLIND TRIAL OF FOUR ORAL PROGESTAGEN-ONLY CONTRACEPTIVES
TLDR
Norethisterone acetate emerges as the most promising of the four progestagens studied in this trial and is found to be as acceptable as the combined oral contraceptive nuvacon. Expand
Experience with norethisterone 0.35 mg. as an oral contraceptive--a preliminary report.
Summary503 women were given continuous treatment with norethisterone 0.35 mg. (‘Noriday’) daily for 2,555 cycles. One pregnancy occurred due to method failure, and 4 due to pill omissions. TheExpand
Low dosage progestagen as an oral contraceptive: a clinical study.
TLDR
A low dose of an oral progestagen (norethindrone 0.35 mg daily) was used as a contraceptive agent in a group of 70 women, and of the six pregnancies that occurred, only two could be attributed to failure of the method. Expand

TLDR
There was no significant difference in oral glucose tolerance tests done in 18 women before and after taking norethindrone for 6+ months, and other serum determinations showed a significant rise in alkaline phosphatase and albumin along with a significant decrease in SGOT. Expand
The biological effects of norgestrel alone and in combination with ethinyl oestradiol.
TLDR
Effects occurring upon administration of Ovral and its components at doses approximating 1- 5- and 25-fold multiples of the human dose on a body weight basis are considered. Expand
