SummaryIn 10 patients with cirrhosis of the liver secretion rates of cortisol and corticosterone were determined using an isotope dilution technique. The mean cortisol secretion rate was only slightly reduced ( $$\bar x$$ =14.5 mg/day;s=2.92) when compared with findings in normal persons (x=17.3 mg;s=3.84) through excretion of 17-hydroxycorticosteroids, tetrahydrocortisol and tetrahydrocortisone was significantly diminished.
