SummarySeveral Torulopsis yeasts were screened for production of extracellular surface-active compounds. One strain, Torulopsis apicola IMET 43747, was studied in greater detail. Both on nalkanes and on carbohydrates it produced a mixture of water-soluble biosurfactants with remarkable interfacial activities and surface-tension values around 30 mN m-1 and interfacial tension below 1 mN m-1.
