This paper examines analytically and numerically the effects of self-consistent collective oscillations excited in a high-intensity charged particle beam on the motion of a test particle in the beam core. Even under ideal conditions, assuming a constant transverse focusing force (smooth focusing approximation), and perturbations about a uniform-density, constant radius beam, it is found that collective mode excitations, in combination with the applied focusing force and the equilibrium test…
Control of Beam Halo-Chaos for an Intense Charged-Particle Beam Propagating Through Double Periodic Focusing Field by Soliton
We study an intense beam propagating through the double periodic focusing channel by the particle-core model, and obtain the beam envelope equation. According to the Poincare–Lyapunov theorem, we
Intense electron-beam ionization physics in air
In this paper we study, experimentally and theoretically, the interactions of an intense electron beam with an initially-neutral background gas. The Naval Research Laboratory’s Gamble II generator
Transient chaos and resonant phase mixing in violent relaxation
This paper explores how orbits in a galactic potential can be impacted by large-amplitude time-dependences of the form that one might associate with galaxy or halo formation or strong encounters
Chaos and chaotic phase mixing in cuspy triaxial potentials
This paper continues an investigation of chaos and chaotic phase mixing in triaxial generalizations of the Dehnen potential which have been proposed to describe realistic elliptical galaxies that
