Pythium butleri which causes root-rot of Belladonna produced a heat stable toxic metabolitein vitro. The culture filtrate induced wilting when applied to cut shoots. The pathogen produced significant amount of endo-polygalacturonase, endo-polymethylgalacturonase, exo-polygalacturonase, polygalacturonate transeliminase and pectin methyl-trans-eliminase in media containing glucose and pectin as carbon source.
