Glucuronoxylomannan (GXM) participates in several immunoregulatory mechanisms, which makes it an important Cryptococcus virulence factor that is essential for the disease. Trichosporon asahii and Trichosporon mucoides share with Cryptococcus species the ability to produce GXM.
