We investigated the extracellular production of folate, vitamin B(12), and thiamine in cultures of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from nukazuke, a traditional Japanese pickle, and the relationships between the vitamin production and such properties of LAB as tolerance to salts, ethanol, etc. Among the 180 isolates of LAB, two strains of Lactobacillus (Lb.) sakei and a strain of Lb. plantarum extracellularly produced high levels of folate (about 100 µg/L). A strain of Lb. coryniformis and…

Production of Vitamin B12 and Folate Using a Potent Mutant Strain of Klebsiella pneumonia

Abstract The production of vitamin B12 and folate under solid state fermentation was investigated by using different mutants of klebsiella penumonia. The results showed that the isolate no ( EM33TE)

Evaluation of environmental stress tolerance of extracellular vitamin B 12 producing lactobacilli cultures

We investigated environmental stresses tolerance of the extracellular vitamin B 12 producing lactobacilli cultures and confirmed the screening strategy of vitamin B 12 producing Lactobacillus

Novel vitamin B12-producing Enterococcus spp. and preliminary in vitro evaluation of probiotic potentials

TLDR
A B12-producing E. faecium strain LZ86 is reported firstly, which has desirable probiotic properties and may serve as a good candidate for vitamin B12 fortification in food industry.

Cholesterol Reduction and Vitamin B12 Production Study on Enterococcus faecium and Lactobacillus pentosus Isolated from Yoghurt

TLDR
The present study revealed that the isolate 7MP possesses the highest potential of cholesterol reduction compared to the other isolates, and can offer the value addition of lowering cholesterol and vitamin B12 fortification in fermented food.

Lactic acid fermentation as a tool for increasing the folate content of foods

TLDR
The aim of this review was to clarify the ability of LAB to produce folate in food products, check if the production of folate by LAB in various fermented foods is sufficient to meet human vitamin B9 requirements and suggest ways to optimize folate production by LLAB in fermented food products.

Thiamine-producing lactic acid bacteria and their potential use in the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases.

TLDR
The amprolium-resistant strain A9 showed a modulating and neuroprotective effect in an in vitro model of neurotoxicity constituting a potential bio-strategy to counteract thiamine deficiencies and thus prevent or treat neurodegenerative diseases.

Short-chain fatty acid and vitamin production potentials of Lactobacillus isolated from fermented foods of Khasi Tribes, Meghalaya, India

TLDR
Potent Lactobacillus isolates from traditional fermented foods of Garo Hills, Meghalaya, India showed maximum production of B2, B9, and B12 as well as short-chain fatty acids and could be used for their application as health beneficial functional fermented dairy products.

Effects of Cultivation Conditions on Folate Production by Lactic Acid Bacteria

TLDR
Folate production was further investigated in L. lactis as a model organism for metabolic engineering and in S. thermophilus for direct translation to (dairy) applications, and an inverse relationship was observed between growth rate and folate production.

Lactobacillus reuteri CRL1098 Produces Cobalamin

TLDR
The sugar-glycerol cofermentation in vitamin B(12)-free medium showed that this strain was able to reduce glycerol through a well-known cobalamin-dependent reaction with the formation of 1,3-propanediol as a final product.

Increased Production of Folate by Metabolic Engineering of Lactococcus lactis

TLDR
The controlled combined overexpression of folKE and folC, encoding polyglutamyl folate synthetase, increased the retention of folate in the cell, suggesting a feedback inhibition of reduced folates on folate biosynthesis.

Probiotic spectra of lactic acid bacteria (LAB).

TLDR
The time has come to carefully explore the prophylactic and therapeutic applications of probiotic LAB in an effort to decrease the reliance on synthetic antimicrobials and control the emerging immunocompromised host population.

Folate-producing lactic acid bacteria from cow's milk with probiotic characteristics.

The probiotic potential of newly isolated lactic acid bacteria from cow’s milk was analysed and the efficacy of the selected isolates to produce folic acid was determined by microbiological assay.
