The use of antibiotics to maintain animal well-being, promote growth and improve efficiency has been practised for more than 50 years. However, as early as the 1950s, researchers identified concern on the development of resistant bacteria for the antibiotics streptomycin and tetracycline used in turkeys and broilers respectively. These findings laid the groundwork for agricultural officials to impose stricter regulatory parameters on the use of antibiotics in poultry feeds. Probiotics are live…
Probiotics: Symbiotic Relationship with the Animal Host
TLDR
The isolation and identification of beneficial microorganisms, as well as in vitro and in vivo testing in different categories of farm animals, will guarantee their efficacy, replicability and sustainability in the current production systems.
Overview of the Use of Probiotics in Poultry Production
TLDR
Probiotics are feed additives that have gained popularity in poultry production following the ban of antibiotic growth promoters and can be used in conjunction with other additives to promote improved performance and health.
Physiological and immunological benefits of probiotics and their impacts in poultry productivity
TLDR
This review is an effort to shed light on recent findings related to the benefits of dietary probiotics on gut development, nutrient absorption, gut microbiota, antioxidative properties, immune responses and productive performance in poultry.
Probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics: an overview of their delivery routes and effects on growth and health of broiler chickens
Summary The world population is drastically increasing, and it is evidently necessary to have more secure food supply systems. Poultry meat is one of the most cost-effective and most popular sources
The role of probiotics on animal health and nutrition
TLDR
This review article aims to describe probiotics as a potential growth promoter in major food sectors (poultry, ruminant, and aquaculture), how probiotics can ensure food safety without harmful effects on animals, and find out some points where more research is required to ensure a positive outcome.
The Efficiency of Probiotics Administrated via Different Routes and Doses in Enhancing Production Performance, Meat Quality, Gut Morphology, and Microbial Profile of Broiler Chickens
TLDR
Results revealed that probiotics enhance production performance, and compared to AGPs, do not reduce the beta-diversity of the gut microbial community, and water-soluble probiotics are potentially more effective.
Effect of probiotics administration at different levels on the productive parameters of guinea pigs for fattening (Cavia porcellus)
TLDR
The treatments evaluated in this study significantly impacted the FCR in guinea pigs for fattening and a significant linear effect of increasing doses of the probiotic was found, which indicated that the feed conversion was better with a higher dose.
Phytogenic Feed Additives in Poultry: Achievements, Prospective and Challenges
TLDR
This review aimed to sum up the current trends in the use of phytogenic feed additives in poultry with a special focus on their interaction with gut ecosystem, gut function, in vivo oxidative status and immune system as well as other feed additives, especially organic acids.
Effects of probiotic supplements on growth performance and intestinal microbiota of partridge shank broiler chicks
TLDR
The supplementation of EM in feed could improve the growth performance and positively influence the morphological characteristics of the intestine, and ameliorate the community and structure of the intestinal microbiota of partridge shank broiler chicks.
